Investigation Into Suspicious Fire in Cobourg Continues

In Local, Police Blotter

Cobourg Fire Service and Cobourg Police Service (CPS) remind the public to avoid the area of the Beyond the Blue Box fire on Covert Street until further notice.

Since establishing the crime scene perimeter on Covert Street on September 20, 2023, two pedestrians have crossed into the area actively being investigated.

Crossing a blocked-off scene being actively investigated poses a danger to the individual, interferes with crews at work, and may disturb important evidence. Individuals who cross into active scenes may be charged.

Please continue to avoid the area of Covert Street until further notice. If you encounter yellow perimeter tape, please do not cross. Take an alternate route.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

CPS continues to work with Cobourg Fire, the Ontario Fire Marshal and OPP to investigate the cause of the fire.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call police at 905-372-6821 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting stopcrimehere.ca. Tips received through Crime Stoppers may be eligible for a cash reward.
