World War II Veteran Celebrates 100th Birthday in Cobourg

In Community, Local

Tom Wakeman celebrated his 100th birthday among family and friends at Rosewood Estates Retirement Living Centre in Cobourg on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

Wakeman is the father of four children and numerous grandchildren who held a birthday celebration dinner on Saturday evening.

Wakeman was a veteran of the British Navy and served in World War II.

He came to Canada in 1952, settling in Rexdale before retiring to Cobourg over 30 years ago.

On Tuesday, amongst family members and friends a parade was held in his honour with the Cobourg Police leading, followed by Northumberland County Paramedics and several other vehicles.

Members of the Cobourg Fire Department arrived a bit late having to tend to a call for service.

But Wakeman still got to enjoy the firetruck and even hopped up into the passenger seat to try the siren out.
