Foul Play Not Suspected At This Time, Investigators Request Public Assistance
The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Port Hope Police Service (PHPS) continue their joint investigation into the death of a Port Hope resident. While foul play is not suspected at this time, investigators are requesting the public’s assistance.

On May 19, 2022, at 3:20 p.m., human remains were discovered south of Jocelyn Street in the Town of Port Hope. The identity of the deceased person has been confirmed as Madison CHARD, age 29, who had been reported as missing on April 21, 2022.

A post mortem was conducted at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto on May 21, 2022. Further examination is underway and could take several months to complete.

Police are working with the community to establish a timeline of Madison’s actions prior to her death. Investigators are asking anyone who may have any information regarding Madison CHARD to come forward, including observations, conversations or any interactions they may have had with her prior to her disappearance.

The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit and Central Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS) Unit are continuing the investigation, under the direction of the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch and in conjunction with the PHPS and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.
