Philip Lawrence, Member of Parliament for Northumberland-Peterborough South, released the following statement on Statistics Canada’s report detailing inflation levels reaching an eighteen-year high.

“Canada’s inflation rate is at its highest point since 2003, with the cost of living up 4.7 per cent from last year. Soaring inflation rates, coupled with a cost-of-living crisis, are negatively impacting families across Northumberland-Peterborough South. Food is getting more expensive. Gas and home heating are costing more. And housing prices continue to reach new records.”

“With more and more Canadians struggling to make ends meet, now is the time for action, not more platitudes. It is time for our Government to increase the resiliency of our supply chains, get spending under control, and keep the Bank of Canada’s monetary policy framework at the 1 per cent to 3 per cent inflation target.”
