Good Samaritans Save The Day Notifying Authorities of Broken Rail at Crossing

In Editor Choice, Local

A woman about to cross a set of railway tracks in Colborne was shocked when she discovered the rail had been broken off at the crossing.

Trinity Teeple was driving with her mom who lives in Colborne and was driving down Durham Street South around 2 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021 when she noticed the broken rail at the crossing.

“I was shocked,” said Teeple when she saw the broken rail.

Two other people were also at the crossing when Teeple pulled up.

“Thankfully they had already started the process of calling CN and the emergency railway phone number.”

“We made sure any cars trying to come or go stayed away from the tracks – including us – in case a train came before we were able to notify the proper people that the rail had broken.”

It’s believed a large truck was travelling over the tracks and the low trailer hit the tracks with enough strength to break it.

Teeple said the crossing was shut down for approximately three hours while repairs were made.
