Smaller Area Than Expected of Vegetation Cleared By Cobourg Boat Launch

In City Hall, Local

Town staff finished up clearing away the vegetation from the south parking lot on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

Workers started away the area on March 31, 2021. It’s the first time it had been done in a few years because of rising levels of Lake Ontario.

The area was cleared with the blessings of the Ganaraska Concersvation Authority.

Several people voiced their concerns with the clearing of the brush, while workers were clearing the brush in March.
It seemed to have been halted abruptly as there was a larger area to clear but Deputy Director of Community Services Teresa Behan stated to Today’s Northumberland, “I decided it was big enough.”

The only brush that was being removed was dogwood, buckthorn, some scrub willow, scrub (tag) alder and some dead elms There are some aspen/poplars and black willows that will remain.
