What Emergency Services Go Through When Responding to a Medical Emergency at a Facility That Has a COVID Outbreak

In Local

It’s something members of the public generally don’t get to see.

But late Thursday, April 29, 2021, Today’s Northumberland got the chance to see what emergency responders go through when responding to a medical emergency in facility that has a COVID outbreak.

Late Wednesday, Northumberland County released a statement stating a staff member at Transition House on Chapel Street in Cobourg has a confirmed case of COVID-19.

At this point there are 10 people residing at the facility, but there is a “pause” on new admissions while they deal with the outbreak.

The staff member is at home in isolation.

On Thursday at approximately 11:45 p.m. a resident at Transition House suffered a medical episode where emergency services were required to respond.

Police arrived first, followed by members of the Cobourg Fire Department, then Northumberland County Paramedics.
Before entering Transition House, each emergency responder put on proper equipment, including breathing apparatus.

Working in the rain, one paramedic checked the other to make sure everything was properly in place before entering Transition House.

These are COVID times.

And just another example of how emergency services go where others fear to help people in need.
