Update – Northumberland OPP – Victim Identified in Fatal Collision North of Campbellford

(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT HILLS, ON) – On October 19, 2020, members of the Northumberland County and Peterborough County Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Northumberland EMS and Trent Hills Fire Department, responded to a serious collision that occurred at approximately 12:55 pm on County Road 50 north of Meier Street, which is located just north of the town of Campbellford.

An SUV that was travelling northbound, failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and went into the ditch striking a culvert. The passenger, 16-year-old Chloe Wellman of Trent Hills, Ontario, has died as a result of the collision. The 17-year-old driver from New Brunswick was taken by EMS to a local area hospital, but was later transported to a trauma centre in Toronto with serious injuries.

County Road 50 was closed for several hours between Church Street and 10th Line West, while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
