Breaking News – Fatal Collision North of Campbellford

(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT HILLS, ON) – On October 19, 2020, members of the Northumberland County and Peterborough County Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Northumberland EMS and Trent Hills Fire Department, responded to a serious collision that occurred at approximately 12:55 pm on County Road 50 north of Meier Street, which is located just north of the town of Campbellford.

An SUV that was travelling northbound, failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and went into the ditch striking a culvert. The passenger who will not be identified pending next of kin notification, has died as a result of the collision. The driver was taken by EMS to a local area hospital, but is expected to be transported to a trauma centre in Toronto with what are being described as serious injuries.

County Road 50 is currently closed between Church Street and 10th Line West, while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measure and document the scene. The closure will remain in place for several hours while police investigate.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
