Cobourg Council – Hall of Famer Remembered

In City Hall

By Cecilia Nasmith/Today’s’ Northumberland
Cobourg councillors this week paid tribute to the late Gord Brooks on his recent passing – half a year after being named a 2020 inductee into the Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame.

Brooks learned his hockey skills in the old Cobourg Church Hockey League and with the Cougars before going on to become Cobourg’s first NHL player.

Though a London resident, Mayor John Henderson said, Brooks was in Cobourg at least twice in 2020.

A March visit was to be present at the announcement of this year’s hall-of-fame honourees.

“Previous to that – he was a big hockey fan and attended our Home Town Hockey in January,” Henderson added.

“He just loved those moments, and I am so delighted.

“Mr. Brooks – what you have done and what you have contributed to Cobourg will forever be remembered.”
