Transition House was re-opened on Chapel Street in Cobourg on Friday, July 17, 2020.

Due to COVID-19, on March 20, 2020, Transition House was temporarily moved to CCI on King Street East in Cobourg.

Transition House Emergency Shelter has been providing safe and supportive shelter for Northumberland County’s most compromised citizens since 1999. As the only emergency shelter that serves all citizens of Northumberland County, Transition House is committed to offering a valuable and often life-saving service for those with multiple challenges, particular vulnerabilities and needs related to homelessness and housing insecurity.

On Friday, staff were preparing the Shelter for re-opening of their guests starting at 6 p.m.

Today’s Northumberland was given a tour of the facility that has numerous changes and upgrades.

Orange tape placed in areas to let residents know where furniture is to be placed due to Covid restrictions of social distancing.

Upgrades have been made at various areas of Transition House including hands free soap dispensers, new banisters and more.

Due to Covid, there are only 10 residents, plus staff allowed at the facility till further notice.

Today’s Northumberland spoke with Executive Director Anne Newman about Transition House.
