Peterborough County OPP – Boat Accident on Rice Lake

Two males injured – one missing

(OTONABEE-SOUTH MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a boat accident on Rice Lake this morning at approximately 7:00 am.

A boat with three males on board lost control while travelling on Rice Lake near Wood Duck Drive. One male was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, one male was transported by air ambulance to a Toronto hospital with serious injuries and one male is unaccounted for.

The OPP Marine Unit, Otonabee-South Monaghan Fire Department and a helicopter from OPP Aviation Services are currently searching the area for the missing male.

The Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) is attending to assist with the search.

The cause of this accident remains under investigation.
