The first baby of 2020 – and incidentally, of the decade – came into the world at Northumberland Hills Hospital at 7:27 p.m. New Year’s Day.

Weighing in at six lb. 18 oz. and measuring 20.5 inches long, Naomi Scott was welcomed by first-time parents Brenda and Hudson Scott of Cobourg a few weeks early.

“Our due date was actually Jan, 19, but here we are,” the happy father joked.

“It’s a pretty good way to start the new decade.”

The proud mother said the entire team at NHH made it a positive experience.

“We want to say thanks to everyone who supported us through the delivery,” she said.

“As first-time parents, we really didn’t know what to expect. All the nurses, Dr. Michael Green – the obstetrician-gynecologist who delivered her – and everyone has just been wonderful. It’s been a great experience, from birth to our first night and today.”

The announcement from NHH said that its maternal-child care team welcomed 583 births in the past fiscal year, up from 551 the tear prior, thanks to a strong partnership with local obstetrician-gynecologists, family physicians, anesthesiologists and several local midwifery groups.

“Designed with the unique needs of newborns, their mothers and family members in mind, NHH’s Maternal Child Care unit is equipped with six labour and delivery beds, each in their own private and home-like suite, a Caesarean-section operating room, advanced fetal and patient monitoring, and a comfortable family lounge.”

For those expecting a 2020 baby, the hospital partners with the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit to co-host popular information sessions at the hospital (1000 DePalma Dr., Cobourg) on the irst and third Tuesday evening of each month to help soon-to-be parents to prepare for their new arrival.
