In Editor Choice, Local

Emergency services will have responded to Transition House over 300 times for 2019.

Today’s Northumberland spoke with emergency services to get an update for the amount of times they have responded to Transition House on Chapel Street in Cobourg.

From the beginning of 2019 till the end of August, emergency services responded over 206 times to Northumberland County’s, “only safe, accessible emergency housing shelter” for men and women over the age of 18.

The website for Transition House states, “as Northumberland County’s only homeless shelter, we provide safe, dignified and supportive temporary housing, life skills and transitional support services to men and women over the age of 18 from Cobourg, Port Hope, Grafton, Colborne, Campbellford, Brighton, Hamilton Township, and Alderville. Our service area includes all of Northumberland County.”

Transition House has beds/bunks for 22-clients with one room holding 10.

Since the facility re-opened in October 2018 it became a “low threshold” facility so people with addiction or mental health issues are not turned away.

Speaking with various emergency services, including Cobourg Police, Cobourg Fire Department and Northumberland County Paramedics, for the last four months of 2019, they have responded 100 times to the emergency housing shelter.
