Breaking News – Suspicious Fire As Abandoned Home Destroyed By Fire In Alnwick/Haldimand Township

In Editor Choice, Local
Flames lit up the sky as residents in the area reported a structure fire in Alnwick/Haldimand Township around 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019.
An abandoned house located off Savory Road east of Harwood on an un-maintained road was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
The only thing left standing when fire crews arrived was the chimney.
Alnwick/Haldimand Fire Chief Mark Diminie said the abandoned house had no electricity and at this point it’s unknown how the fire started.
Hamilton Township fire crews were also called to shuttle water to the scene.
Diminie has notified the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and is waiting to hear back if they will attend.
Between March and June, 2019 there have been at least four suspicious fires which have destroyed three structures, (including a church),  and heavily damaged another building.
Northumberland OPP are also investigating trying to determine a cause.
