June 24, 2019 through to June 30, 2019, the Cobourg Police Service responded to 245 incidents which included:
12 theft calls, 16 motor vehicle collisions, 9 alarm calls, 6 missing person calls, 5 family disturbance calls, 13 suspicious person calls, 7 fraud calls, 17 9-1-1 hang up calls, 3 assault calls, 2 drug offences calls, and 5 domestic dispute calls.
Here are some examples of calls for service for the week:
June 24
* Police attended a business in the north-west part of Cobourg for an attempt theft. On arrival police spoke with the loss prevention officer who advised that two men attempted to take a $400 mixer and a $350 security camera. The men left the cart with the items in it and left the property.
* Police attended a business in the west end of Cobourg for a theft. On arrival police spoke with the complainant who advised that a man was caught for theft from the store and was currently in custody. Police continued the arrest of, Greg LAUGHLIN, and later release him on an appearance notice.
June 25
* A young woman was approached by an older man at Northumberland Mall where the man had made questionable remarks to her. The area was searched extensively with negative results for the older male, described as non-white, short black hair, 5’10” tall wearing a red t-shirt and khaki shorts.
* Police attended the downtown area for a report of a woman being abusive to a dog in her care. Police searched the area for the female described as wearing pink shorts and a ponytail without success. No other person approached police with any information on the whereabouts of the dog or owner. Please be advised that Ontario has launched a new toll-free number for the public to report non-emergency animal welfare concerns. 1-833-9-ANIMAL (264625). Please continue to call the police if there is an emergency.
June 26
* A woman contacted police to advise that her cell phone had been stolen and was currently at a pawn shop in Cobourg. The woman was advised that she would have to attend at the Cobourg police to provide a statement and that the phone would be seized until court proceedings, she no longer wanted any police assistance.
* Police attended and address in the west end for an out of control child and a mother in need of assistance. Upon arrival police noted that the young man had a severe anxiety attack and was calmed by police. There were no allegations of threats or assaults as police departed the area.
June 27
* Police attended a business in the north-west area of Cobourg for two woman who were in custody by loss prevention for theft. On arrival police continued the arrest of the two women and later released them on an appearance notice. No names will be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
* A man attended the Cobourg police to report his father had locked him out of the house and he had been kicked out. The man is an adult and was advised not to return to the residence that evening and work something out with his father in the morning. There was no indication of an assault or threat.
June 28
* A man attended the Cobourg police to advise that his wallet had been stolen from his car and his cards had been used at a downtown business. An investigation was initiated, and a local business provided video. The investigation is ongoing.
* Police received a call for a break and enter in progress at a residence in the North East part of Cobourg. On arrival Police had been given a description of the two people that were inside the residence but were now no longer there. A call was placed to the landlord of the residence and he advised that the people were allowed in the residence as they were cleaning up from the last resident and had her permission.
June 29
* Police were contacted by a woman advising that she was the victim of a domestic assault that morning when her husband pushed her, and she hit her face on a chair. Police investigated and found there to be two more incidents of domestic assault that had gone unreported. The man was contacted to attend the Cobourg Police Service to be arrested and he advised that he would attend, but remains outstanding.
* A call was received from employees at a downtown business for a man that was trying to start a fight inside the business. Upon arrival police spoke to the man, who was obviously intoxicated, and gave him multiple opportunities to proceed to his residence. The man became belligerent and defiant towards police and he was subsequently arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. He was transported to the Cobourg Police and released from cells when he became sober.
June 30
* Police were contacted by the hospital advising that an older woman, who had been brought by ambulance, had just left the hospital intoxicated and they were concerned for her safety. The woman was located and released by hospital staff and police drove the woman to her home in Colborne.
* Police were called to the CCI East High School for a report of people possibly being on the roof and having a fire. Police attended with Cobourg fire and a search of the entire roof of the high school was conducted. It was determined that there did not appear to be anyone on the roof and no sign of a fire could be seen.
