The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 184 incidents this past week, here are some examples:
January 28
· An officer stopped a grey SUV on Highway 401 eastbound near the Nagle Road overpass in Hamilton Township just before 2:00 am after it was measured travelling 135 km/h. As the officer was conducting the investigation the driver exited the vehicle, fled on foot into a ditch and over a fence. The male was located a short time later by assisting officers not far from the initial location of the vehicle stop. Investigation revealed the SUV had been stolen from a residence in Scarborough during the evening of January 27, 2019. As a result 51-year-old Mario LANGLOIS of Montreal, Quebec was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:
o Theft of Motor Vehicle
o Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
The accused was held in custody for a show cause hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
· An owner of a business in the town of Colborne contacted police to report a cheque fraud in an amount over $700. As a result of the investigation police arrested and charged 44-year-old Anne Marie CRAIG of Cramahe Township with:
o Fraud under $5,000
o Make a Forged Document
She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on March 13, 2019.
· Just after 6:15 pm officers responded to a residence in the town of Campbellford for a report of domestic dispute. Police arrested and charged a 26-year-old male from Trent Hills, Ontario with:
o Fail to Comply with Probation Order (two counts)
o Fail to Comply with recognizance
o Assault.
The accused was held in custody for show cause hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
January 29
· Shortly before 10:00 am officers assisted a 46-year-old male who drove a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) into the center median at the 509 exit at County Road 30 in the Municipality of Brighton. The male driver was found to be in medical distress and was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital for assessment and treatment. The tractor and trailer were removed without incident and no charges were laid.
January 30
· The owner of a black Mercedes SUV contacted police after finding her vehicle had been damaged sometime overnight while parked at residence on County Road 2 in Hamilton Township. The vehicle was found with the windows smashed and paint thrown throughout the interior. Investigation continuing.*
· A 46-year-old male from Cramahe Township was arrested and charged under the Liquor Licence Act for being intoxicated in a public place after officers found him to be quite intoxicated walking down Toronto Street in the town of Colborne. The male was held in custody until sober then released.
January 31
· At approximately 4:00 am officers were called to assist a senior resident from Alnwick-Haldimand Township gain access into his home after he realized he forgot his keys and was unable to get back inside.
· An employee, who works at a fueling station in the town of Campbellford called police around 1:00 pm when a male left the location after purchasing three phone cards, then returned and began yelling at the employee claiming he never received the third card and demanded money in the amount of the card he claimed he never received.* Police continue to investigate.
· Just before 2:00 pm officers stopped a black sedan on County Road 45 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township. The male driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the investigation 34-year-old Randy Joseph AUBREY of Alnwick-Haldimand Township was arrested and charged with Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The accused received an immediate 90 day licence suspension and the vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on February 27, 2019.
Officers also investigated 15 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 29 motor vehicle collisions; 31 traffic related complaints and conducted 7 RIDE programs during this time period.
