Port Hope Police – Suspect Charged With Assault Police/Impaired Driving Following Weekend Collision

In Local, Police Blotter

A 37 year old Cobourg man is facing charges after Port Hope Police responded to a collision on Walton Street. Shortly before 1:00am on September 30th a westbound vehicle left the roadway colliding into a house on the south side of Walton Street east of Pine Street. When Police arrived a man was located unresponsive in the driver’s seat.  The vehicle collided into the north east corner of the house rupturing a gas meter. Because of the imminent danger the man was pulled from the vehicle by a police officer. The man began to struggle with the officer. Other officers arrived on scene and assisted in attempting to take the man into custody.  He continued to struggle punching one officer in the face and kicking another officer. Police deployed a conducted energy weapon and the man was eventually taken into custody.  He was transported to Northumberland Hills Hospital by ambulance to be examined for injuries he may have sustained as a result of the collision.

Port Hope Fire and Public Works assisted in the scene along with Northumberland OPP and Cobourg Police.  The Fire Department contained the leak and it was later repaired by Union Gas. The road was closed for a period of time.  An investigation was commenced into the cause of the collision resulting in the man being charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and 2 counts of assaulting a police officer.  James Breaky appears in court later in October to answer to the charges.
