Two Cobourg men face a long list of charges following a investigation by the Cobourg Police Services.

Last week, police released information about a armed robbery that resulted in two Cobourg men being charged.

On Wednesday, March 1, 2023 police received a report of a person-on person armed robbery on William Street in Cobourg.

As a result of that investigation, police arrested two suspects following a high-risk (gun point) vehicle stop on University Avenue.

Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf stated to Today’s Northumberland that as a result of that investigation, police executed a search warrant shortly before 6 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 161 (Unit A) University Avenue East address and seized a large amount of cash and illegal drugs.

“Through some great work of our uniform team and our criminal investigative team that robbery, brought us back to University Avenue, an address for various reasons has been on our radar for the last six months.”

In total, police seized $2,600 in Canadian currency and drugs worth an estimated street value of $54,000 following the search warrant.

Seized were approximately: 485 grams of suspected cocaine

25 grams of suspected MDMA (ecstasy)

43 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine

“The community in that area have been really strong supporters of the Cobourg Police Service, providing ongoing feedback to the Chief of Police at times about things that our maybe not as good be in their neighbourhood.”

Today’s Northumberland spoke to two women last Thursday who live in the area of the search warrant who were extremely happy with the police.

“I’m so happy – thank you Cobourg Police Service,” said one woman.

“The last year has been a nightmare,” said the other woman on her front door steps.

Numerous times people knocked on their doors because they have the wrong place, people going in and out, being verbally abusive.

Cobourg Police initially installed a CCTV (closed-circuit television camera), but on the day of installation, the cord was mysteriously cut. Chief VandeGraaf held a press conference outside of the residence and later that day the CCTV was working properly again.

The women did say, that people tried to avoid the camera by going in the backyard of the duplex and coming out the other side in the backyard.

After they “stop in” they come out with their hoods up.

One of the women’s 14-year-old grandson said, “nana do you know you live just down by a drug house?”

It got so bad that the two women even started creating names for the regulars who were “visiting” the apartment.

VandeGraaf said it was a “spontaneous criminal investigation” with numerous officers nearly working a 24-hour shift.

“They did fantastic work.”

VandeGraaf has always stated the CCTV’s cameras are not going to solve or stop all crimes, “but it sure helps us gather evidence for a crime.”

VandeGraaf said he’s proud of the officers work and the culmination of the two suspects who are charged, but the never ending battle on the street for illegal drugs continues and he hopes the officers had a restful weekend, because as of Monday, “they are back at it.”

36-year-old Thomas Davidson of Cobourg was charged with the following
