Homeless Encampment Discovered in Cobourg

Cobourg Fire Department responded to a burning complaint and discovered a homeless encampment on Friday, September 23, 2022.

At approximately 6:45 p.m. firefighters responded to smoke in the area of Division Street by the VIA Rail entrance.

The cause of the fire was a campfire with a number of clothes being burned.

Two people were at the encampment and one person started a individual was burning clothes, but had left the area.

At least one tent, along with a number of bicycles, a large amount of clothing and other items were discovered in the area between the two railway bridges on Division Street.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and took no further action.
