Community Care Northumberland (CCN) is announcing an upcoming retirement from Community Care Northumberland. After thoughtful consideration, Lynda Kay has decided to retire from her role as Director of Donor Relations and Communications for CCN and Ed’s House Foundation as of this October.
Lynda joined CCN as a volunteer on the Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre’s Capital Campaign Committee during the initial stages of raising money to build. This was shortly after her retirement as CEO of the United Way after a long 28-year career.
Trish Baird, CEO of Community Care Northumberland comments, “Lynda has been instrumental in the success of our fundraising campaigns over the last 4 years. Not only did she and her team of staff and volunteers raise over $10 million dollars in under 2 years for the building of Ed’s House, this past year she has helped raise over $1 million dollars through CCN fundraising and Ed’s House campaign pledges. A true testament to someone who is connected to the community and committed to the charitable efforts of CCN. We will all miss Lynda, and her positive attitude and enthusiasm.”
Sherry Gibson, Director, Hospice Services at Ed’s House adds, “Congratulations to Lynda on her decision to retire; I know it was a tough one to make. Her phone will start ringing with more opportunities as the word gets out, she is a freer person! I was fortunate to learn from Lynda during the capital campaign and beyond, and we have had some thought-provoking conversations. I will miss Lynda’s presence but look forward to her continued contributions to make Northumberland County the best place to live and work.”

Lynda really has been, and still is, such an asset to CCN and to all of us who have been fortunate to work with and learn from her! It’s a long way until October but Lynda will be very much missed by all of us when she goes. It just won’t be the same without her!”
Lynda Kay comments, “It was a tough decision to make to retire from CCN as I have enjoyed working with the staff, volunteers, and the community. I admire all the tremendous work that CCN does to support individuals in our community. CCN is an amazing organization!”
Lynda was born in England and is a graduate of Queen’s University, starting out in the music business, before moving to Cobourg 40 years ago. Lynda quickly got involved in our community, going on become the CEO of Northumberland United Way for nearly 30 years, where she spearheaded the ‘Day of Caring’, and ‘Backpacks for Kids’, and ‘Northumberland Food for All’.
Just over 20 years ago, Lynda was involved in a group that started the Cobourg Civic Awards, as she reallyloves all things community and thought this was a great way to recognize all that volunteers do to give back to this area.
In January of 2018, Lynda accepted the new role at CCN as the Director of the Donor Relations and Communications team and has been building that Department since then.
When asked what woman inspires her most, she says, “The Queen…for her true commitment to service to her country – until she leaves this earth.”
