Cobourg Police Service Investigating Disturbing Incident

Cobourg Police Service is investigating a disturbing incident involving an unknown person shooting a home surveillance camera with what is suspected to be a pellet gun. A person of interest has been identified.

On Monday, May 30, 2022, at 4:20 a.m., police were called to a residence near Carlisle Street and Westwood Drive for a report of a person with a firearm.

On the home surveillance video footage, an unknown person was seen walking around the property, pointing and shooting an imitation firearm directly at the home surveillance camera. The unknown person is also seen attempting to open the door of the home. Officers searched the area with the assistance of the Port Hope Police Service and conducted a community canvass.

The ongoing investigation led by the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch has identified a person of interest thought to be connected to the incident.

The person of interest is still outstanding, and they are described as a male, thin build, average height, wearing light-coloured hoodie, light-coloured pants with a dark stripe down the leg, dark coloured gloves, carrying a cross drawn fanny pack, barefoot.

A community canvass will be conducted in the surrounding areas on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
