Video – Photo Gallery – MNR Officers Patrol Ganaraska River as Salmon Fishing Season Continues

In Local, Photo Gallery

Anglers returned to the Ganaraska River on Thursday, October 15, as fishing resumed and the annual salmon run entered its final stretch.

Although the salmon run is winding down for another season, there were still plenty of fish in the river, with anglers lining sections of the waterway and several reporting success in landing salmon.

But the anglers were not the only ones keeping a close eye on the river.

Officers with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) were patrolling the Ganaraska, monitoring fishing activity and enforcing regulations.

Several anglers approached the officers during their patrol to express appreciation for their presence, saying they were glad to see enforcement taking place along the river.

The patrol also resulted in a number of anglers being issued tickets for violations.

While many anglers were enjoying the opportunity to catch salmon, questions remained about what happened after some fish were landed.

Some appeared more focused on photographing their catches than returning the fish to the river, raising concerns about whether all anglers were following the applicable regulations.

With the salmon run nearing its end, the MNR’s presence served as a reminder that fishing regulations remain in effect and that anglers are expected to follow the rules.

The Ganaraska River attracts anglers from across the region each fall, drawing crowds hoping to land one of the salmon making their annual journey upstream.

For those still hoping to take part in the season, the message is straightforward: enjoy the fishing, respect the resource and follow the regulations.
