Major Additions Made to Brighton Outdoor Rinks

In Community, Local

For the second winter in a row, the Municipality of Brighton has prepared two outdoor rinks (King Edward Park & Codrington Hall) for the public to enjoy during the winter season.
A major addition to both rinks this season are the “Skate Shacks” that sit next to both rinks, allowing skaters a roofed, dry space to take skates on and off. The newly acquired skate shacks are made from c-cans and were renovated so skaters can comfortably get ready to skate in a dry area. The shacks have been renovated and paid for through community partners and corporate sponsors.

The Municipality of Brighton would like to thank the following sponsors and volunteers for making this project come to life. Councillor Ron Anderson knew the possibility of indoor rink closures could happen again and wanted the community to be ready.

“I had a vision that things could still be bad this year and put the idea forward to Council with Emily last February. Emily and I pushed for and established outdoor rinks for last Winter. With some great support by our Council and local sponsorship and physical help we got it done.”

Mayor Ostrander also expressed his gratitude towards the local organizations and sponsors who made the project possible.

“This is a big community project. It doesn’t happen without partnerships, it doesn’t happen without people getting together and saying, “Let’s just see what happens, let’s just try this out”. To all the groups that supported this project, thank you very much! This is the stuff that doesn’t happen in small communities without sponsors coming out and saying we’re going to make this happen. This is why Brighton works.”
