Quite West OPP – Driver Charged After Driving Vehicle Into Water

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver after they launched their vehicle into Wellers Bay.

On July 26, 2021, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Quinte West OPP responded to a report of a vehicle in the water off of Barcovan Beach Road in Carrying Place. Witnesses reported a single occupant who was sitting on the roof of the car. Investigation revealed that the driver’s licence was suspended earlier the same day after failing a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST). The accused was subsequently arrested for impaired operation.

Harold COOPER, 53 years old of Brighton has been charged with the following offences:

Operation while impaired

Dangerous operation; and

Driving while under suspension

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on August 12, 2021.
