NLC is Back with COVID Edition

In Upcoming Events

By Cecilia Nasmith/Today’s Northumberland
Forced by the coronavirus pandemic to cancel its spring series on Alberta (which included an appearance by Reform Party founder Preston Manning), Northumberland Learning Connection has planned a free COVID-edition presentation on-line for June 18.

Known for in-depth explorations of timely topics, NLC has addressed the challenges of being unable to organize gatherings with a free 7:30 p.m. on-line Zoom presentation of Animal Farm: An Alternate View of Pandemics by University of Guelph Professor Emeritus David Waltner-Toews.

A renowned Canadian veterinarian epidemiologist specializing in the diseases humans acquire from animals, Waltner-Toews is also the author of seven collections of poetry, two books of fiction, several textbooks on ecosystem approaches to health, and six popular science books (including Origin of Feces, Sex and Salmonella, and his newly released On Pandemics: Deadly Diseases from Bubonic Plague to Coronavirus).

His newest book is on the Globe & Mail’s spring 2020 Best New Reads list, and can be ordered as of May 28 from Furby House Books in Port Hope,

Details on how to register and view the presentation will soon be released. Meanwhile, the NLC hopes you’ll put the date on your calendar (and let friends, family members and colleagues know too).
