Cobourg Police Service held a short ceremony for police officers who died in the line of duty throughout Ontario.
Traditionally the ceremony is held at Queen’s Park in Toronto the first Sunday in May, but due to COVID-19 the annual ceremony was cancelled.
“It’s a sad, but proud moment,” said Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf.
“May 3 (the ceremoney) will not happen.”
The Heroes to Remember Committee asked services to create some form of video tribute.
Members of the Cobourg Police Service Pipes and Drums paraded west on King Street to the police station where members of the Police Service were waiting.
Amazing Grace was played and a minute of silence was held to remember all the men and women who died including Cobourg Police Constable Chris Garrett who died on May 15, 2004.
