Video – Weedly Big Problem in Cobourg Harbour

In Local

Cobourg Marina staff are doing their best to combat a problem this year – weeds.

There is a large amount of marina growth taking over the area around the docking area of the inner harbour that has been ongoing for the summer months.

Staff have been trying their best to remove them, but the above average heat temperatures and calm water it makes for perfect growing conditions.

At this point it seems, the pesky weeds/marina growth are winning the war.

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, a Jet-Ski from Port Hope pulled in to dock just so the riders could grab some ice-cream, but the water plants go into the intake causing major issues.

On Friday, Bruce Kropelin was trying to get his hybrid e-foil out onto Lake Ontario, but due to the water growth had an extremely hard time getting beyond the harbour.

Boaters and marina staff are doing their best, but for now it seems like it’s a work in progress.
