Northumberland OPP – Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement in Cramahe Township

In Local, Police Blotter

On Tuesday April 7, 2020 officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with assistance from Ministry of Transportation (MTO) enforcement officers, conducted Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) checks on Hunt Road just off County Road 2 to verify load restriction compliance.

During the spring thaw, most rural roads become too soft to withstand the weight of a fully loaded truck, no matter how many axles. In an effort to reduce damage to these roads, weight restrictions of five tonnes per axle (half-loads) have been implemented.
This is called “Half Load Season” and it normally runs from March until May.

A tractor trailer hauling excavating material was stopped by enforcement officers on Hunt Road and was found to be violating the weight restrictions. As a result the operator and the owner of the transport were each charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with $2,335 in fines in relation to the weight violations and safety issues found with the vehicle upon inspection. Both the owner and operator were from Brampton, Ontario.

The Northumberland O.P.P is committed to road safety by emphasizing our dedication to ensuring safe roads.
