MNRF Officers Doing Their Best To Make Sure Anglers Follow The Rules

In Editor Choice, Local

Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Officers are busy patrolling area waterways now that the annual salmon run is in full swing.

On Sunday, September 8, 2019 MNRF handed out eight tickets to four men from Quebec who were charged with snagging and fishing in an area that is marked no trespassing.

The men were fishing in an area along Cobourg Creek behind Northumberland YMCA.

The anglers were given a summons to appear in court and their rods and four salmon were seized by the officer.

There were many more anglers along the Ganaraska Creek in Port Hope.

A number of people took in the view of the salmon at Corbett’s dam north of Jocelyn Street which is marked as a fish sanctuary. Thousands of fish try and make it past the dam each year.

But it was obvious a number of people that didn’t pay attention to the signs stating their was no fishing from the south side of the Highway 401 bridge to the south side of the Jocelyn Street bridge.

One bright spot for the day was when a MNRF officer spotted a note placed beside his vehicle on Ontario Street just south of Elgin Street in Cobourg.

The note read, “thanks for the work you do. Appreciated by many :)”
