Breaking News – Cobourg Police Internal Investigation Following Officers Social Media Comments

Cobourg Police have launched an internal investigation after an officers online social media comments on post on Saturday, July 6, 2019.

Constable Larry Davis issued a Facebook post stating, “absolute insanity these days in policing.”

The post continued to say that Davis was one of two officers on duty until 6 p.m.

“Responsible for roughly 18,000 residents, a full beach and music fest to boot downtown. Have a safe weekend everybody!!!”

Communications Coordinator with the Cobourg Police Service, Laurie Debattista stated on Monday, July 8, 2019 that an investigation is underway into the comments, but didn’t elaborate.

Today’s Northumberland reached out to the Cobourg Police Association – President Chantal Diotte stated, “as this matter is currently under internal investigation, the Cobourg Police Association will not be providing comment regarding it. I can assure the community that our uniform and civilian police personnel are committed to providing the Town of Cobourg with high quality, effective policing services. Public safety is the primary concern of our members.”
