The Colborne Art Gallery opens the new season with a “Foot By Foot” show of members’ works. All pieces in the show are 12” x 12” in size. The show runs from March 13 to May 3 with a reception on Saturday, March 21 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The gallery is pleased to introduce Vera Litynsky, the newest member, who is showing for the first time with the group.
Vera is well known throughout Northumberland County for her artwork. She came to the area from Toronto, initially running an art studio and Wicklow Manor Bed and Breakfast. Her house provided a ready-made exhibition space for her creative endeavours after having exhibited in Toronto for fifteen years prior to her relocation.
In Toronto, Vera had a successful career as a graphic artist and set designer for television. She widened her field of design to include music, comic books and children’s education. She also branched out further into retail and merchandising design.
At present, Vera usually paints with acrylic paint on canvas. However, she has explored watercolour and artisanal designs in soy candles and made assemblages as “beautiful alternatives” from cast-off porcelain, glassware, wood, and fabric pieces.
But, Vera’s first love is the fine art of painting which she had pursued successfully as a student in high school. She states, “The reminder of the anticipation and thrill of mixing and pushing paint along a surface was all I needed to get back into painting”. Her works broadcast the fun she has in the actual process of making textural marks in bold colours with paint.
Northumberland County’s pastoral bliss has inspired Vera’s work. The county’s details resonate with her.
“A time of day or height of season, turbulence in an unbalanced world, fleeting moments” are what drives Vera to create. Her works are interpretations felt with each brushstroke of what she observes in landscapes, still life, figures and faces.
Vera joins the other 10 members of The Colborne Art Gallery: photographer Ken Solilo, mixed media painters Elizabeth Vercoe, Heather Stubbs and Rosanne Dolan, textile and mixed media painter Eileen Myers, photographer Ian Davis, watercolour painter Wrex Roth, painter Ed Hagedorn, collage and mixed media artist Margaret McDonald, and multi-media artist Helen Van Poorten.
