Brighton native Hallie Clarke is getting set to compete at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics in Italy and the municipality has plans to celebrate.

Clarke is a world champion in skeleton racing and this is her first Olympic Games. Heats one and two for the women’s event are scheduled to begin at 9:50 a.m. eastern time on Friday, Feb. 13 with heats three and four to determine the medalists starting at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14.

The Municipality of Brighton is holding a Community Watch Party for the final two heats on Feb. 14 starting at 12 p.m. in the Owen Gibb Community Hall at 75 Elizabeth Street. The fourth heat is expected to begin around 1:30 p.m. eastern.

The free event will have a big screen and Canadian-themed snacks and refreshments. Those attending are encouraged to wear red, white or Canadian-themed attire and bring noise makers of their choice to cheer on Clarke.

Brighton previously held a community celebration for Clarke when she won the women’s skeleton World Championship in 2024: https://todaysnorthumberland.ca/2024/03/12/brighton-welcomes-home-world-champion-skeleton-racer/
