A few tense moments on Highway 401 east of Port Hope on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

At approximately 1 p.m. Northumberland County OPP were dispatched to Highway 401 eastbound approximately two kilometres west of Burnham Street in Cobourg.

A eastbound transport blew a rear tire with parts of the tire on the highway. A second transport passed over the tire debris which ruptured the air brake line to the rear brakes.

With no pressure, the rear brakes locked up and the driver took evasive action to bring the transport to the right hand shoulder of the highway.

A MTO vehicle was in the area and quickly removed the debris from the highway.
