(Today’s Northumberland file photo)

The annual HBIA Trick or Treat night has grown in popularity, attracting over 500 children last year. This year, to improve safety and enhance the experience for all, there will be road closures to accommodate pedestrians.

From 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, the following closures will be in place:

Road Closures
Walton Street (from Cavan Street to Mill Street)
Ontario Street (from Thompson Drive to Walton) local traffic only to Brogdens Lane
John Street North (from Augusta Street to Walton Street)
Queen Street (from Augusta to Walton) local traffic only to Library Parking Lot

Parking Impacts
Parking will not be permitted inside road closures. Advance signage will be installed on parking meters by HBIA on the morning of the event to prepare drivers for the road closure.

Transit Impacts
To ensure continued transit service, we have arranged for modified transit routes during this period. Please take note of the following changes:

Route A:

Depart Town Hall and proceed north on Mill Street South to Barrett Street
Turn south on Cavan Street, to South Street
South on Brown Street and return to Walton Street to continue the standard route
The bus will skip stops A35 and A36 during this re-route
Route B:

Depart Town Hall and proceed north on Mill Street South.
The bus will skip stops B2, B3, and B4, then resume the regular route at Stop B5.
A detailed look at the changes can be viewed on our interactive transit map.
