Canadian Fire Fighters Museum receive over $60,000 to develop interactive exhibits and preserve
firefighting history.

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, MPP David Piccini was at the Canadian Fire Fighters Museum (CFFM) to
formally congratulate the group on receiving a $62,300 Seed grant from the provincial government’s
Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) last fall. With the support of the grant, the museum can use more
technology to engage visitors and share untold stories through new and/or updated displays. This initiative will market the museum as a vibrant and inclusive space and will also help share its collection with the public virtually and in-person.

“I am proud that we host this important part of our history, one worth cherishing and protecting,” said David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South. “The Canadian Fire Fighters Museum plays a vital role in educating Canadians on fire safety and the evolution of firefighting in our country.

This funding will aid in bringing important lessons to life for learners of all ages.”

The funds provided by the province has enabled CFFM to improve its digital presence by integrating
platforms on their website to better organize and interpret data, while also strengthening the museum’s
marketing efforts. The project included several key components, such as creating a digital library of
historical assets, and developing exhibits that highlight untold stories. Additionally, the museum introduced digital analytics to gather insight and improve visitor experience.

“This project has prepared us for the next chapter in our new home,” said Michelle Haney-Kileeg, Chair,
CFFM.

“We’ve built new partnerships, gained fresh perspectives and stories, and now have the tools to
share our amazing collection—both online and in person. We’ve also developed new ways to connect with
visitors and a five-year marketing plan to help guide our future.”

The Canadian Fire Fighters Museum has found a new home in Cobourg’s historic former Memorial Arena.

The museum operated in Port Hope for several decades, but its doors have been closed for over five
years. Fundraising and grants are critical to the museums long-term success. One upcoming fundraiser is
the 2nd Annual Hot Run on June 22nd, a crucial event aimed at supporting the museum’s operations and growth.

The Canadian Fire Fighters Museum is on track to be fully open in 2026, but there are plans to showcase
some new exhibits at special events in 2025. The museum tells the story of firefighting in Canada and the
collection of vehicles and artifacts dating from 1800 represent the different types of fires fought and where, making this local museum a unique place to visit in Canada. CFFM’s mission is to be a nationally
recognized leader in engaging Canadians in the rich history of fire fighting in Canada through an
exceptional collection, innovative programs, collaborative approaches and professional conduct.

“Whether it’s helping people learn new things, connect with their community, or simply have fun,
organizations like the Canadian Fire Fighters Museum deliver experiences that make a difference,” said
Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “That’s why grant support through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. This funding will help ensure that it remains at the heart of the community for decades to come.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build
healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732
community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster
more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together
and connect, and create a more sustainable environment. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
