Two Cobourg residents had their tickets for parking in a fire route thrown out of appeals court in Cobourg on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

Each person was designated a time period to be heard by Hearings Officer Neha Chugh in the Council Chambers of Victoria Hall.

Council Chambers is used for individuals who wish to contest being charged with bylaw offences.

Both individuals were charged with parking in a fire route (Park or Stand in a Fire Route).  One was at the encampment located at the former Youth Centre in King Street East and another in downtown Cobourg.

Manager of Bylaw Enforcement Kevin Feagan stated at the Hearing, withdrew the ticket from the Hearing.

The Town noted that ticket was issued under the incorrect bylaw and should have been issued pursuant to s. 2.4 of By-Law Number 032-2022 the By-Law to Designate and Regulate Fire Routes.

Both tickets was therefore vacated due to procedural deficiency.
