Video – Fence Goes Up at Cobourg Encampment as Infrastructure Ontario Deals with Offer

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

Busy times at the encampment in Cobourg on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

Today’s Northumberland has learned through several sources that the property may be in the closing stages of being sold.

The property is just over 30 acres and has been listed on the Infrastructure Ontario property sight since February 2, 2024 at a price of $9,100.000.

The property is still listed on the site but the MLS has been removed from the listing.

The contact person listed for the Infrastructure Ontario website is, Ian Hunt with CBRE Limited.

Hunt told Today’s Northumberland on Wednesday, that, “we’re dealing with an offer right now.”

But as of Wednesday, the deal hasn’t closed.

“It’s too soon to say,” when there will be any word on the closing.

Hunt also said there is an offer on the property at 138 Hope Street North in Port Hope but stopped short of saying if it is the same business.

“We’re dealing with interested parties on both.”

The property in Port Hope is just over 14 acres and is priced at $3,900.000 and has also been listed on the market since February 2, 2024.

The encampment has been on the former Brookside Youth Centre property since September 2023 with sometimes upwards of 60 people.

Emergency services have been called to the site dealing with a number of issues involving overdoses and tent fires.

Along with security, there are two police officers on-site watching over the installation of the fence.

The fencing at this point went around the perimeter of the property.

Today’s Northumberland reached out to Infrastructure Ontario from comment, but has not received one as yet.
