Former Site of Transition House Sold

In Local

As first reported by Today’s Northumberland, the former site of Transition House at 10 Chapel Street in Cobourg has officially been sold.

The Richard Pomeroy House, built c.1841, a remarkable Georgian-style home, adorned with Greek Revival detailing, is a testament to timeless symmetry and historical architectural perspective, linked to Richard Pomeroy himself, a former town council member and prosperous dry goods merchant.

Since 2003, the property has operated as Transition House, providing emergency housing to those facing homelessness and housing insecurity. The Richard Pomeroy House is now ready to begin its next chapter, offering secure, comfortable and culturally significant care for Northumberland’s children.

After being on the market for over a year, this exquisite landmark has been purchased and is being restored by a world-renowned property owner and architecturally significant property restorer who has secured a daycare as a long-term tenant.

The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, Past Chair Diane Chin, is pleased that the intention for another historic treasure in Cobourg to be restored and adaptively reused as a space for Northumberland children is indeed good news.
