Brook Road North (CR 20) in Cobourg to Temporarily Close for Sewer Installation Work

In Local

Northumberland County is advising residents, businesses, and motorists of an upcoming temporary full road closure on Brook Road North (County Road 20) between Elgin Street East and King Street in Cobourg, from May 28 to May 31, 2026.

The closure is required to allow the Town of Cobourg’s contractor to install a trunk sanitary sewer beneath Brook Road North as part of the ongoing Cobourg East Community Trunk Servicing Project led by the Town of Cobourg. This infrastructure will support future growth and servicing needs in Cobourg’s east end.

During this period, Brook Road North will be limited to local traffic access only. Local access will be maintained:

· Between Elgin Street East and 833 Brook Road North

· Between King Street and 450 Brook Road North

All through traffic will be detoured via D’Arcy Street, with signage in place to guide motorists. Heavy truck traffic will be required to follow a designated detour route along Workman Road.

Construction activities are currently underway on Brook Road North, with lane restrictions and lane shifts in effect. Following the full closure period, periodic daytime lane closures will continue as work progresses. Full project completion is anticipated by the end of July 2026.

“This temporary closure will allow crews to complete a critical phase of underground infrastructure installation as part of the Cobourg East Community Trunk Servicing Project,” says Director of Public Works Denise Marshall. “We thank residents, businesses, and motorists for their patience as we coordinate this work with the Town of Cobourg and strive to minimize impacts to the travelling public.”

Residents and businesses along Brook Road North, as well as those travelling through the area, are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for additional travel time during the closure period.
