Town of Cobourg Flags at Half-Staff in Honour of Sergeant Brandon Malcolm

In City Hall

The Town of Cobourg would like to advise residents that at the request of the Mayor, flags across the Town of Cobourg will be lowered to half-staff in honour of the passing of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sergeant Brandon Malcolm.

Sergeant Malcolm was a member of the OPP’s Northumberland Detachment in the Central Region since 2020, and prior to joining the OPP, he served in the Canadian Armed Forces. He tragically lost his life on April 27 in an accident on Highway 401.

“On behalf of Council and our entire community, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Sergeant Malcolm’s family, friends, and colleagues,” said Mayor Lucas Cleveland. “We honour his service and the sacrifice he made to keep others safe.”

“I also want to thank all the first responders who attended the scene under extremely difficult circumstances. We are also thinking of all those who were injured and are continuing their recovery following this incident.”

Flags will remain at half-staff until the day of the funeral
