A 51-year-old Cobourg man is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of a stolen vehicle and controlled substances.
On March 25, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Elgin Street for a Highway Traffic Act offence. During the investigation, officers learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen. The driver was arrested at the scene.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located a quantity of Schedule IV controlled substance (steroids), along with key fobs, many linked to luxury vehicles.
As a result of the investigation, Peter Habaybeh, 51, of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with:
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5,000
Fraudulent Concealment
Possession of a Schedule IV Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
Possession of a Device for the Purpose of Committing Theft
Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance
Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit
Two counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order
The accused was held for a bail hearing and was remanded into custody.
