It’s been a memorable winter for those who enjoy the outdoors in Northumberland County.
The area has been inundated with an abundance of snow over the winter and people from the area and outside the area are taking full advantage of it.
On Saturday, January 17, 2026 the shores of Rice Lake around Bewdley were filled with snowmobiles stopping by the local restaurants.
One snowmobiler estimated there were 70 “sleds” lined up along the shoreline.
Groups of snowmobiles were traveling north along the shoreline and also along the trail on Rice Lake to the east.
A snowmobiler needed a bit of help with directions and two other drivers were more than happy to explain the way to get back on the trails.
There were plenty of anglers on the ice as well huddled in their warm fishing huts just off of Bewdley.
Shortly after 4 p.m. a number of anglers packed up their portable huts and came back to shore along with two women from Keene who went for a snowshoe walk on the lake.
Just off Rice Lake Marina a number of people in their side-by-sides were enjoying whipping up the snow and having fun.
Just off of Gores Landing a dog and his best friend were taking an evening stroll on the lake before dark.
As night fell, a beautiful way to end the day was taking a skate on the Rotary Harbourfront Rink in Cobourg.
