In Local, Police Blotter

A Cobourg man is facing charges after a front window of Victoria Hall was broke on Monday January 12, 2026.

At approximately 11:50 a.m. police who were on paid duty in downtown Cobourg heard a commotion in front of Victoria Hall.

A window pane of Victoria Hall just to the east of the front entrance was broken.

Officers who were on paid duty took the individual into custody.

While in custody, the individual spat in the face of a Special Constable. As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old Cobourg man has been charged with Causing a Disturbance, Mischief Under $5,000, and Assault Peace Officer. The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.

Repairs to the pane of glass took place on Tuesday.

As a result of the incident, Town of Cobourg has hired security for the lobby of Victoria Hall.

Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland stated to Today’s Northumberland that he would not comment on the investigation, but did confirm the hiring of a security guard for the lobby of Victoria Hall during daylight hours.

“What I can tell you is that the situation at Victoria Hall due to a lack of support is both concerning and disturbing. What is even more disturbing is the criminal activity that has been occurring within this building each day.”

Cobourg Police did not issue the name of the suspect, but did state since January 2025, the accused has been arrested five times with 11 criminal charges. In total, police have had 126 interactions with the accused in the past year.
