Cobourg Police – Incidents Include Arrest Made Following Traffic Stop, Cobourg Woman Charged, Shoplifting (No Names Released)

Arrest made following a traffic stop in Cobourg.

On Thursday, January 1, 2026, at approximately 10:30 a.m., police conducted a vehicle stop and began an investigation. The driver, a 42-year-old woman from Whitby, was arrested and charged with Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code, three counts of Driving Under Suspension, Drive Motor Vehicle No Valid Permit, Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle and Fail to Have Insurance Card. The accused was subsequently released on an undertaking with a future court date. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.


A 37-year-old Cobourg woman was charged after being observed driving while prohibited.

On Thursday, December 30, 2025, at approximately 11:50 p.m., police on general patrol in the area of Division Street at Veronica Street observed an individual known to be prohibited from driving in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the area. Police conducted a vehicle stop. As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old Cobourg woman was arrested and charged with Operation While Prohibited, Driving While Under Suspension, Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, Fail to Surrender Insurance Card, and two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation. The accused was held for a show cause hearing and subsequently remanded into custody. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

The Cobourg Police Service notes that since January 2025, the accused has been arrested 10 times with 14 criminal charges. In total, police have had 28 interactions with the accused in the past year.


A Cobourg man is facing charges following a shoplifting investigation.

On December 29, 2025, police received a report of shoplifting from a business on William Street in the Town of Cobourg. Upon reviewing surveillance footage, police identified a suspect.

As a result of the police investigation, a 31-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000, and Failure to Comply with Probation Order. The accused was held for a show-cause hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.

The Cobourg Police Service notes that since January 2025, the accused has been arrested 12 times with 28 criminal charges. In total, police have had 41 interactions with the accused in the past year.
