City of Belleville Declares Significant Weather Event

In Local, Weather

fter reviewing weather reports that the City subscribes to and observing the weather warning issued by Environment Canada which indicates significant amounts of freezing rain this afternoon into tomorrow, the City of Belleville is declaring a significant weather event in the municipality, as defined within the Minimum Maintenance Standards Regulation Ont. 239/02.

This declaration includes the following weather hazards: freezing rain, freezing drizzle, flash freeze, frost and rainfall, as set forth by Environment Canada’s Weather Impact Guides.

During the significant weather event, the City of Belleville is advising motorists and residents to use extra caution as the municipality may not be able to meet its maintenance standards for roads, bike lanes and sidewalks due to the significant precipitation and conditions expected. The declaration will not change how or when the municipality performs its winter maintenance operations. However, it may take the municipality longer than usual to bring the roads back to a state of repair.

“The safety of all community members remains the municipality’s top priority,” said Director of Transportation & Operations Services Joe Reid. “Residents can be assured our dedicated and professional public works first responders will be here and available to ensure any interruptions or inconveniences are mitigated as much as possible.”

Transportation & Operations Services can be contacted directly at 613-967-3275 or 613-968-6482 (after hours) with any issues or concerns during this significant weather event.
