Northumberland OPP – A Number of People Charged with Impaired (Names Released)

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a number of persons with impaired operation in unrelated incidents.

On November 21, 2025, at approximately 8:40 p.m., officers on patrol along County Road 2 in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, were alerted by the in-cruiser Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system to a pickup truck displaying unattached plates.

The vehicle was stopped, and an impaired driving investigation was initiated. The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.

Andrew BIRD (57) from Trenton, has been charged with:

– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

– Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

– Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

– Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

– Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates

– Use plate not authorized for vehicle

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in January.

On November 22, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., ALPR alerted officers to a vehicle linked to a suspended driver on Front Street South in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The motorist was confirmed as prohibited and uninsured.

Garett THOMSON (45) from the Municipality of Trent Hills, has been charged with:

– Operation while prohibited

– Driving while under suspension

– Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

In addition to a future court date in January 2025, the accused had their vehicle impounded for 45 days.

On November 22, 2025, at around 9:20 p.m., a Township of Hamilton resident reported a vehicle that had driven across a lawn, causing property damage before leaving the scene.

Officers located the driver and began an impaired driving investigation. The individual was arrested and transported for further tests.

Christien DEGENOVA (26) from Cobourg has been charged with:

– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

– Fail to remain

– Fail to report accident

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in January, 2025.

On November 23, 2025, at approximately 6:45 p.m., OPP received a traffic complaint regarding a suspected impaired driver on Dominion Street in the Municipality of Trent Hills. Officers located the vehicle, which had several child passengers, and initiated an impaired driving investigation. The driver was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

A 42-year-old female from Lakefield, has been charged with:

– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

– Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

– Driving while under suspension

– Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The individual shall not be named to protect the identity of the young persons. The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in January, 2025.

For each impaired driving charge, a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and 7-day vehicle impoundment were imposed as per statute.

If you know or suspect that a driver is impai red by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. In doing so, you may save a life. Whether you are impaired by alcohol or drugs, impaired is impaired and driving under the influence of either is a criminal offence. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive.

Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture.
