Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre is pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Essak has accepted the position as the new Medical Director for Hospice Services at Community Care Northumberland’s Ed’s House.

Dr. Kate Everdell, who has long provided exceptional guidance and compassionate care to residents, families, and staff, played a pivotal role in shaping the high standard of care at Ed’s House. Her dedication has left a lasting legacy in the community.

Dr. Essak brings 38 years of medical experience, including 35 years serving the Cobourg community across office, hospital, obstetrics, and emergency care. Throughout his career, he has maintained a strong focus on palliative care and has held leadership roles such as Chief of Staff at Northumberland Hills Hospital and Chair of the local Family Health Team.

“I’m very pleased to continue my work with the excellent staff, volunteers, doctors and leadership team at Ed’s House as I take over as Medical Director from Dr. Everdell and continue the great work she has started,” said Dr. Essak.

Together with the hospice team, Dr. Essak will continue to advance Ed’s House’s mission of providing dignity, comfort, and expert medical care to residents, while offering support to their families.

“On behalf of the Board, staff, and volunteers at Ed’s House, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kate Everdell for her years of outstanding service and dedication,” said Trish Baird, CEO of Community Care Northumberland. “We are delighted to welcome Dr. Essak as our new Medical Director and look forward to the expertise and compassionate care he brings to our residents and families.”

The hospice community joins together in celebrating Dr. Everdell’s contributions and in welcoming Dr. Essak in his new role at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.
