Video – Port Hope Man “Outraged” Over Halloween Decoration

A Port Hope man said he’s “outraged” when he saw a Halloween decoration on his neighbours property.

Jordan Knight was walking home on Tuesday, October 29, 2025 when he spotted a “inappropriate” Halloween decoration hanging on his neighbours property.

A number of decorations are hanging from a tree at the front of his neighbours property, a white ghost is hanging from a tree with the string coming out of the top of its head to the branch on the tree.

But a black decoration appeared to have been hanging from a rope tied around its neck with hands tied from behind.

“I can’t say my real thoughts on it, but it’s inappropriate,” said Knight.

“Especially when you live next door to a black person you should kind of understand how sensitive that is.”

“The work that was done with the noose makes it different.”

Knight said the decoration is offence, “because going back in history, black people were noosed, sorry lynched and hung on trees and left to rot.”

Since living in Northumberland County for the last decade, Knight said he’s experienced, “a lot of racism.”

Port Hope Police were called about the decoration and issued a statement to Today’s Northumberland saying, “the investigation revealed that there was no racial intent and the owner repositioned it and apologized right away and understood the issue and had no intent.”

But Knight said the decoration was reinstalled by the next day.

“There is no need for that.”

“To play devils advocate, they’re just hanging up decorations but I think when you live next to somebody that is black, you want to be very sensitive about what you do and how you do it.”

Knight said police told him that it’s just a Halloween decoration.

“I pointed out to him (police) the history in New Orleans. The attire that the skeleton is wearing is reminiscent of the clothing that was worn in New Orleans.”

“He (police officer) just dismissed it.”
