As a result of misinformation circulating in the community and recent incidents involving harassing, defamatory, intimidating, and threatening behaviour towards staff both in person and online, officials at the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand are again reminding residents and the general public that the
Township has a Zero Tolerance Policy against the harassment, bullying, and intimidation of staff and officials.
This is in keeping with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OSHA) and the Employment Standards Act.
The Township’s goal is to foster a community built on transparency, trust, and open communication. The public are encouraged to contact Township staff directly or any member of Council if they have questions or concerns about Township services, programs, or decisions. The Township is open to respectful community feedback and dialogue and is available to assist and provide accurate information to ensure that our community is well informed.
“Behind every Township service is a person—someone working hard for our community. As Mayor, I want our staff to know they have my full support and I am grateful to them for their tireless efforts to serve the residents of Alnwick/Haldimand every day. Harassment and intimidation have no place in our
community. We must always act with respect, kindness, and integrity.” – Mayor John Logel
“Township staff work hard to provide excellent service, run programs that benefit our residents, and ensure our bylaws and procedures are followed to keep our community safe and well-managed. Everyone has a right to a safe work environment, free of harassment, intimidation, and bullying. There are many
appropriate and respectful ways for people to address issues within our Township and I encourage anyone with an issue regarding Township decisions and operations to speak directly with a member of staff or Council.
Any form of threatening, harassing, or intimidating behaviour toward Township staff is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. If necessary, the Township may take appropriate legal and law enforcement action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its staff.” – Dave Dawson, CAO/Fire Chief.
